In a significant restructuring of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership, party chief Arvind Kejriwal has appointed Saurabh Bharadwaj as the new convenor of the Delhi unit. The reshuffle aims to strengthen the party’s organizational structure ahead of upcoming elections.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been given charge of AAP’s Punjab unit, with Satyendar Jain appointed as the co-incharge. The decision was made during a high-level meeting attended by key AAP leaders, including General Secretary (Organisation) Sandeep Pathak, Delhi Convenor Gopal Rai, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak, Pankaj Gupta, and Raghav Chadha. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann joined the discussions via video conferencing.
Apart from Punjab and Delhi, AAP also finalized leadership roles for three crucial states: Punjab, Gujarat, and Goa. Gopal Rai and Durgesh Pathak have been responsible for overseeing AAP’s Gujarat unit. In this key state, the party is striving to expand its presence after making inroads in the 2022 assembly elections. Their tasks include evaluating the ground situation, preparing for upcoming by-polls, and strengthening the party’s organizational network in weaker regions.
AAP has been making steady progress in Gujarat, where it managed to secure nearly 14% of the vote share and win five seats in its debut assembly election. The party is now aiming to build on this momentum and emerge as a stronger contender against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Meanwhile, in Punjab, where AAP secured a landslide victory in 2022, the party remains focused on consolidating its rule and addressing governance challenges. The leadership shake-up is expected to bring new strategies and a fresh approach to tackling political competition in the state.
